Center/Defensive Line: 1922-1925

Ivan "Butch” Hunt was a three sport athlete at Mineral Point, playing Basketball, running Track, and dominating the line in Football. Ivan earned eleven letters and as a senior, he captained all three teams.

Ivan was a three year starter for the Pointers, playing all three years in the line. As a sophomore, he started at right tackle on offense. He served as Center in both his junior and senior years. His coach Francis Loughrea remarked that he was "Big and Fast, and an excellent passer at center." The true strength of the team however was the defense that Ivan anchored. In the earliest days of high school football, Hunt led the Pointers for their first, but disputed Conference Championship in 1924, going 6-1-2 with the only loss coming in a non-league game with league opponent Fennimore. In 1925, the Pointers went undefeated in conference with a 5-0-3 record, and finishing the season with a loss at Fort Atkinson in a 1920s equivalent of a high school "bowl" game. In the 9 games of 1924, the Pointers allowed just 48 points with two shutouts and in the 9 games of 1925 they allowed just 38 points with six shutouts. At the end of the 1925 season, Ivan was named to the Fort Atkinson -All-Opponent Team", naming him as the best Center the undefeated Fort Atkinson team faced. Additionally, the Southwest Conference awarded the first trophy for a Conference Championship that year, making it the oldest trophy in the Mineral Point High School Trophy Case.

After graduation from Mineral Point, Hunt went on to play college football at UW-La Crosse for several seasons where he started the 1929 and 1930 seasons at left guard, along with former Pointer teammate, James Clark, who started at left tackle. At La Crosse, Ivan earned a degree in Physical Education in 1931.

Ivan was the son of Marcus and Mabel Hunt, born in 1908. He married Ruth Noble and they had three children, Marilyn, Julie, and Judy. He was a long time resident of Mineral Point and served many years on the Mineral Point School Board. Ivan passed away in 1989, still a Pointer.
