Tony Nardi was a three year letter winner in football. As a freshman, he lettered and played halfback on Mineral Point's first Conference Championship team in 1934. Tony was widely acclaimed as one of the area's best! athletes. In an era before playoffs, before all-conference teams, and before the press named athletes to an all-state team, the Wisconsin State Journal honored Tony by printing a featured article on his prep career following the last game of his junior season. Because of age restrictions at the time, the WIAA would not let Tony compete as a senior.

He won nine letters, three in football, three in track and three in basketball. He set several track records and collected three bronze medals at the state track meet as a sophomore in 1935. At the state track meet in 1936, Tony won a silver medal in his best event, the high hurdles. In Basketball as a Junior, Tony led the Southwest Wisconsin Conference in scoring.

The 1934 team finished 7-2, winning all seven conference games including six shut-outs. As a junior, Tony captained the Mineral Point Football team and led Mineral Point to a 21-0 win over Dodgeville in his last game.

"I accept this honor for my teammates. They all deserve this as much as I do because one man doesn't make a football team. This is a great honor, and I don't deserve this anymore than any one of my teammates. We didn't play for ourselves, we played for the pride of our home town. We were brothers. They were all like brothers to me. Coach Madland and coach Baker, they were like a father to me. Many a day I look at that picture and think of them. The ones I played with, and the ones that aren't here anymore."  ~ Tony Nardi, August 11, 2006
