Running Back - Linebacker/Safety: 1967-1969

Acclaimed by teammates as the best ball player on the 1969 team, Terry played many positions. Additionally, he kicked and punted. As a sophomore, he saw limited time on the championship team of 1967, playing in the secondary and occasionally at quarterback in passing situations in coach Bob Waltzer's last season. As a junior in first year coach Ron Murphy's new scheme, he led the team to a 5-3 record as a linebacker and running back. He started the first game as a senior as a quarterback, but moved to the half back position for the rest of the season, and became the primary ball carrier from the I and Power I formations. As a hard-hitting defender, he led the team to a 6-2 record as a senior. Wearing number 44 and playing the "Monster" position in the Okie 5-2 and 6-3, Terry acted as a strong side run-stuffing linebacker and became the strong safety on passing downs. Mineral Point ended up in fourth place in the last season of the old fourteen team SWAL, losing to champion Platteville by two points and runner up Fennimore by three. Terry was one of four Pointers named to the All-Conference team, earning honors for both defense and offense. As a senior, with time running out on the clock against Dodgeville, Terry made one of the most incredible runs in Pointer history. He made it to the sideline on a sweep, cut back across the field to the far sideline and scored no a 65 yard run. On the PAT, he carried again on the same play, made a move that left the defender standing still, and scored the two point conversion to win the game 8-7. Mineral Point has always had the reputation as a hard hitting team, and Terry still has the reputation as one of the hardest hitters ever to play for the Pointers. In three years, his varsity record was 17-6-1.

After graduation, Terry went on to play at UW-Platteville where he played a significant role in their defense and special teams all four years. Listed as a 6'1" and 195 pound Linebacker, Terry also returned punts. In his freshman year, Terry led the Pioneer defense with five interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. The Pioneers won the league championship that year and again during Terry's senior year. He earned all-conference honorable mention honors for his efforts during that senior season. Terry finished his career at Platteville with over 100 career tackles, 13 career interceptions, 192 interception return yards and two interceptions returned for touchdowns. While at Platteville Terry's teams finished 31-8-1 overall and 24-7-1 in conference, with championships in 1971 and 1974.
