Split End/Outside Linebacker: 1992-1993

Brian "Moose" Murphy was one of Mineral Point's most prolific pass receivers during the early 1990s, serving as Andy Palzkill's primary target. The youngest son of long-time coach Ron Murphy and his wife Linda, Brian followed his older brothers Pat and Mike in playing for his father as well as being a three sport athlete in Football, Basketball, and Baseball.

In 1992, Brian led the state with 59 receptions. He scored 68 points on eleven touchdowns and a two-point conversion while racking up 675 yards receiving. For his efforts he was named to the SWAL II All-Conference team with his teammate and fellow receiver, Aaron Gibbons. As a junior, Brian also punted on occasion and completed one pass for 15 yards.

In 1993 as a senior captain, Brian again led the state in receptions with 86. That set the Mineral Point record for most receptions in a season. The 1,027 yards he gained that year also set the single season record. He again scored eleven touchdowns and two extra point conversions, putting him in the top ten all time in scoring with 138 points. He shared the team honor of Most Valuable Offensive Back with his quarterback Andy Palzkill, and was named to the All-Conference team a second time. He was named to several All-Area teams, but his greatest football honor was being named to the Wisconsin High School Football Coaches Association All-State Team as a Split End.

When his career with the Pointers ended he held three school records but was also second all-time in five others. Brian still holds the record for Most Yardage Season (1,027), Most Receptions Season (86), and Most 100 Yard Games (8). He is second all-time in Career Yardage (1,902), Most Receptions Career (145), and Most Receiving Touchdowns Career (22). He holds both the second and third positions for Most Catches per Game (15 and 14).

After graduation Brian attended UW-Platteville where he played college basketball and was a part of three National Championship teams (1995, 1998, 1999). He earned a teaching degree at Platteville, and now resides in Verona with his wife Angie and children Megan and Andrew.
